First Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka ends in draw

Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara finished his second hundred of the match as the First Test against Bangladesh ends in a draw on the fifth day in Galle on Tuesday.

Sangakkara smashed a fine 105 runs and opener Tillakaratne Dilshan an inspiring 126 as Sri Lanka declared their second innings at 335 for 4 at tea to set Bangladesh impossible 268 runs winning target in the final session. Bangladesh ended at 70 for 1 in their second innings.

The flat track at the Galle International Stadium gave eight centuries, equals the record of most tons in a Test Match between West Indies and South Africa match at Antigua in 2005. Sangakkara made his 32nd Test Match century, this was the highest by a Sri Lankan in Test Cricket. He hit 10 boundaries in his 172 ball innings.

Dilshan completed his 16th Test Match Hundred. Dilshan and Sangakkara dismissed in the space of 19 runs after lunch, They put on 213 runs for the second wicket. Bangladesh also produced a brilliant batting performance in the match as they made their highest Test total of 638 in their 1st innings on Monday in reply to Sri Lanka's 570 for 4 declared.

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim top scorer with 200 runs, the first Test double hundred by a Bangladesh batsman. Mohammad Ashraful (190) and Nasir Hossain (100) were the other main run scorers. Musfiqur Rahim named for the Man of the Match award. The second and final Test starts in Colombo on Saturday.

Bangladesh skipper Rahim creates history with Double Century

Mushfiqur Rahim was became the first Bangladeshi to smashed a double hundred in Tests while Nasir Hossain made a first Test Match century as the visitors got a 68 runs lead in the first Test against Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh captain Rahim hit a brilliant 200 and Hossain an inspiring 100 as Bangladesh were all out for 638, this was their highest total in 76 Test Matches, in reply to Sri Lanka's first innings total of 570 for 4 declared.

Sri Lanka reached 116 for 1 in their second innings at stumps on the day four of the Test going for a draw in Galle. Opener Tillakaratne Dilshan was unbeaten on 63 and Kumar Sangakkara not out on 49 runs.

Bangladesh who dominated the match for a second consecutive day with their fine batting display, also became only the third team after India and Pakistan to post 600 or more in a Test innings in Sri Lanka.

Rahim overnight score 152 smashed one six and 22 fours in his solid 321 ball knock. He put on a record 267 runs Partnership for the fifth wicket with Mohammad Ashraful and 106 for the next with Hossain.

Ashraful and Rahim unbeaten partnership guide Bangladesh scored 438 for 4 on Day three

Mohammad Ashraful and Mushfiqur Rahim made brilliant unbeaten hundreds in a record partnership as Bangladesh commanding third day of the First Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Sunday.

Mohammad Ashraful scored unbeaten 189 runs , This was the highest score by a Bangladeshi in Test Matches and Rahim made a career best undefeated 152 runs as the tourists made 438 for 4 in their first innings at stumps in reply to Sri Lanka's 1st Innings total 570 for 4 declared.

This 261 runs unbeaten partnership was Bangladesh's highest stand for any wicket in Tests Matches, the before best partnership being 200 runs for the 2nd wicket between Tamim Iqbal and Junaid Siddique against India in Dhaka in 2010. Bangladesh also passed their previous highest total of 413 against Sri Lanka in Tests.

The Bangladesh avoided the follow on in the third session, now trail by 132 runs with six wickets left. Mohammad Ashraful played his last Test in December 2011, smashed one six and 20 fours in his sixth Test century, and the fifth against Sri Lanka, while Rahim hit one six and 18 boundaries in his second Test hundred.

Debutant Mominul Haque also impressed, scoring an 83-ball 55 with nine fours. He added 105 for the third wicket with Ashraful before being caught at first slip by skipper Angelo Mathews off paceman Nuwan Kulasekara. Sri Lanka strike again when left-arm spinner Rangana Herath removed Mohammad Mahmudullah stumped for no score to reduce Bangladesh to 177 for 4 before Ashraful and Rahim rebuild the innings.

Chandimal, Thirimanne maiden century set up Sri Lanka declared 570 on Day 2

Lahiru Thirimanne and Dinesh Chandimal smashed maiden Test hundreds put Sri Lanka control on the second day of the first Test against Bangladesh in Galle on Saturday.

Thirimanne made unbeaten 155 and Chandimal an undefeated 116 as the Sri Lanka declared their first innings at 570 for 4 after added 209 to their overnight score of 361 for 3 for the loss of just single wicket.

Bangladesh were 135 for 2 in their first innings at end of the Day 2, with Mohammad Ashraful was unbeaten on 65 and debutant Mominul Haque not out on 35.

Paceman Shaminda Eranga got first when he had opener Jahurul Islam  for 20 caught behind and then spinner Ajantha Mendis dismissed debutant Anamul Haque (13) in his first over to put pressure on Bangladesh. Ashraful then rebuild the innings as put on 70 runs for the unbeaten third wicket partnership with Mominul. 

Thirimanne, playing his 9th Test match, smashed 14 fours in his 256-ball knock while Dinesh Chandimal, in his sixth Test, hit two sixes and 12 boundaries in a 151 ball knock. This pair dominated the Bangladesh bowling attack for more than a session. Earlier Off spinner Gazi ended with 3 for 164, claimed all of his wickets on Day One. Seamer Abul Hasan was the other wicket-taker, finished with 1 for 112 runs.

Angelo Mathews Sri Lanka's New Test and ODI Skipper

Sri Lanka Allrounder Angelo Mathews has been named Sri Lanka's Test and ODI skipper for one year. The 25-year-old has been handed over the   Mahela Jayawardene, who determined to step down at the end of Australia tour, for the forthcoming Test series against Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Dinesh Chandimal has been selected the T20 skipper and will deputies for Mathews in Tests and ODIs. Lasith Malinga chosed as the vice captain of the T20 games.

Most of old faces have been axed from the 20 men squad, while a couple of fresh face have been called up. experienced  batsman Thilan Samarweera has been left out  along with opener Tharanga Paranavitana and wicketkeeper Prasanna Jayawardene. Spinner Ajantha Mendis, who very last played a Test in May 2011 against England, has been included.

The included are: Batsmen Ashen Silva and Kithuruwan Vithanage, seamer Dushmantha Chameera, and offspinner Tharindu Kaushal.
