India win series as 3rd ODI called off
Margao: India has won the three match one day series against Australia 1-0 after the third and the final ODI had to be called off without a ball being bowled due to wet outfield and damp conditions at Margao on Sunday.
Heavy overnight rain meant the outfield was still wet, delaying the start of the 3rd ODI. Match referee Chris Broad was scheduled to inspect the ground at 12.15 PM but they decided to call off the play because conditions were not suitable for the game to take place.
The ground was covered by tarpaulins overnight which protected most parts of it but still there were some seepages at the outfield. Super sopper was employed to suck up the water from the covers but it was of no use.
India ended up winners of the series after victory in the second match at Visakhapatnam on October 20 by five wickets. This is India's first bilateral series win against Australia at home after 1986. The series opener in Kochi last Sunday was also washed out.
