Chandimal, Thirimanne maiden century set up Sri Lanka declared 570 on Day 2


Lahiru Thirimanne and Dinesh Chandimal smashed maiden Test hundreds put Sri Lanka control on the second day of the first Test against Bangladesh in Galle on Saturday.

Thirimanne made unbeaten 155 and Chandimal an undefeated 116 as the Sri Lanka declared their first innings at 570 for 4 after added 209 to their overnight score of 361 for 3 for the loss of just single wicket.

Bangladesh were 135 for 2 in their first innings at end of the Day 2, with Mohammad Ashraful was unbeaten on 65 and debutant Mominul Haque not out on 35.


Paceman Shaminda Eranga got first when he had opener Jahurul Islam  for 20 caught behind and then spinner Ajantha Mendis dismissed debutant Anamul Haque (13) in his first over to put pressure on Bangladesh. Ashraful then rebuild the innings as put on 70 runs for the unbeaten third wicket partnership with Mominul. 

Thirimanne, playing his 9th Test match, smashed 14 fours in his 256-ball knock while Dinesh Chandimal, in his sixth Test, hit two sixes and 12 boundaries in a 151 ball knock. This pair dominated the Bangladesh bowling attack for more than a session. Earlier Off spinner Gazi ended with 3 for 164, claimed all of his wickets on Day One. Seamer Abul Hasan was the other wicket-taker, finished with 1 for 112 runs.
