India thrash Australia by eight wickets in the First Test and lead the series 1-0


Sachin Tendulkar smashed two sixes from his first two balls to guide deliver a quick kill as India crush Australia by eight wickets on Tuesday in the first Test at Chennai.

India scored 50 for 2 from 11.3 overs before lunch on the 5th day of play chasing a needed 50 runs to win. Tendulkar was undefeated on 13 from 10 deliveries with Cheteshwar Pujara not out on 8.

James Pattinson dismissed Murali Vijay  for six runs and Virender Sehwag was caught at slip off the bowling of Nathan Lyon at 19 runs. Australia resumed on day five at 232 for 9 and were all out for 241 with a lead of 49 runs.

Nathan Lyon was caught at short leg for 11 runs after put on 66 runs in 85 minutes for the 10th wicket with debut player Moises Henriques was unbeaten on 81 runs.

Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed 5 for 95 after his seven wicket haul in Australia's first innings. Spinners Harbhajan Singh (2 for 55) and Ravindra Jadeja (3 for 72) were the other wicket takers. MS Dhoni named Man of the Match award for his brilliant 224 knock.

The second Test of the four match series starts in Hyderabad on Saturday.
