Stumps, Day 1: Attritional cricket at its very best. The day ends with the game delicately poised at a knife's edge with both teams refusing to concede an inch. On a wicket that looks more day three than one, the English top order fell cheaply to the spin web wound around by the Bangla spinners.
Led by the debutant, Mehedi Hasan, who carried the load of 33 overs in the day, the game seemed to be heading into the pockets of the hosts after the initial spell. But Bairstow, Moeen Ali and Woakes in the end combined to ensure that the fight doesn't perish and more importantly ensured that they reap the benefit of having had the opportunity to bat first on what promises to crumble by the tick of the clock.
