Phillip Hughes stars as Australia thrash Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI

Phil Hughes was  the first Australian to score a hundred on his one day international debut as he powered the side to a 107 run win over Sri Lanka at MCG on Friday.

Phillip Hughes made  112 runs  and stand in captain George Bailey scored  89 runs before David Hussey smashed unbeaten  60  off 34 balls to post  a good total into a commanding 305 for 5 in 50 overs  on a flat Melbourne  wicket.

Dinesh Chandimal reserved Sri Lanka in contention with a aggressive 73 runs  but four wickets from Clint McKay and some excellent fielding, including three run outs, restricted the Sri Lanka  to 198 runs  in reply. Victory finished a three match losing streak against Sri Lanka at the MCG.

Australia  won the test series 3 0, lead the five match  series 1-0 with the 2nd  game on Sunday in  Adelaide. Opener Aaron Finch and number three Usman Khawaja managed just 16 and three respectively after Australia won the toss but Phillip Hughes put on 140 for the 3rd  wicket alongside George Bailey at the rate of a run a ball. Hughes named for the Man of the Match award for maiden Cenutury.
