West Indies beat Zimbabwe by eight wickets in First T20


Lendl Simmons smashed six sixes as his undefeated 63 runs helped West Indies to a easy eight wicket win over Zimbabwe in the 1st of two T20 internationals in Antigua on Saturday.

Batting first, Zimbabwe were reduced to 130 for 8 with West Indies fast bowler Tino Best grabbed  3 for 18 in his four overs spell.

Best dismissed both Zimbabwe openers Vusi Sibanda (13) and Hamilton Masakadza (9) cheaply as the visitors struggled at 28 for 3.

Craig Ervine (34) and Malcolm Waller (49) guide together and rebuild the Zimbabwe innings with a 60 runs partnership in ten overs but the lower middle order were unable to utilize.

In Chasing, Simmons was well supported by Johnson Charles, this pair added on 30 inside four overs before Charles was trapped lbw by Chris Mpofu.

Mpofu then dismissed Darren Bravo for a duck, the left hander's attempted pull looped up to Chamu Chibhabha, to offer Zimbabwe a brief opening.

But  Dwayne Bravo came in to bat and smashed 38 from 30 deliveries as he and Simmons, with their 85 runs stand, West Indies team chased the target with 23 balls left.

The 2nd and final match of the series will also be played at the Sir Vivian Richards stadium in North Sound on Sunday.
