Australian fast bowler James Pattinson has been ruled out of the remainder of the Test series against India in Perth due to a foot injury.
In a disappointing aftermath to Australia’s crushing innings and 68-run win over the tourists at the SCG on Friday, young tearaway will miss the last two Test due to foot soreness.
After complaining of a sore during India’s second innings, Pattinson was taken for x-rays to reveal the extent of the damage.
The 21-year-old, who has taken 25 wickets in just four Tests, was cleared of stress fractures but it has been revealed he has developed the early stage of stress-related bone trauma on his left metatarsal.
NSW youngster Mitchell Starc has been added to the squad in place of Pattinson.
"Whilst he was able to bowl unrestricted in the game he did have pain towards the end of the match," Australian Physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said.
"As such, he had x-rays and scans after the game that have cleared him of a stress fracture but have demonstrated early stage bone stress injury of the metatarsal bone of the left foot."
"He will be managed carefully over the next few weeks and will not be available for selection for the remainder of the Vodafone Test series against India."
National Selector John Inverarity added: "The intention of the National Selection Panel was to rest James from the Perth Test match as this young man has played in four Test matches over a period of just five weeks."
"This intention has become a necessity after post match scans have revealed James’ foot injury."
"The magnificent victory at the SCG has given Michael Clarke's team considerable momentum and captured the imagination of the cricketing public of Australia."
Queenslander Ryan Harris, who was 12th man for the Sydney Test, is the man most likely to be given a chance in place of Pattinson.
