Bopara replaces injured batsman; Tremlett expected to feature
England batsman Jonathan Trott will sit out the third Test against India after failing to overcome a shoulder injury.
The Warwickshire batsman has been replaced in the 13-man squad by Ravi Bopara, who last played a Test match for England back in August 2009.
Trott, who has played 23 consecutive Test matches for England and was an integral part of the side's winter Ashes success, injured his shoulder whilst fielding in the second Test at Trent Bridge and will hope to be recovered from the injury in time for the final match at The Oval.
Middlesex pace bowler Steven Finn is also included in the squad, however national selector Geoff Miller expects fellow seamer Chris Tremlett to overcome a back complaint in time to play on Wednesday.Should England open up an unassailable 3-0 lead over India, with just one to play, they will usurp their opponents as the number one team in the International Cricket Council Test rankings.
That is a position never previously occupied by England. But having apparently failed to make the expected progress after spraining a shoulder joint, Trott will not be part of it.
England squad: AJ Strauss (Middlesex, captain), JM Anderson (Lancashire), IR Bell (Warwickshire), RS Bopara (Essex), TT Bresnan (Yorkshire), SCJ Broad (Nottinghamshire), AN Cook (Essex), ST Finn (Middlesex), EJG Morgan (Middlesex), KP Pietersen (Surrey), MJ Prior (wkt, Sussex), GP Swann (Nottinghamshire), CT Tremlett (Surrey).
