Will Sreesanth deliver for India in the WC?
New Delhi: You may say that he goes overboard in his clownish attempts at getting under the batsman's skin but that's not something you can associate with many Indian fast bowlers. Shanthakumaran Sreesanth is one such character who knows how to give it back, both with the ball and his aggressive antics.
The speedster held his own on being left out of India's final-15 for the World Cup, knowing that there could still be an opening for him and it did finally arrive to Sreesanth's delight on Tuesday when Praveen Kumar was 'elbowed' out of the World Cup.
The Kochi bowler received a call from the selectors after Praveen's elbow injury ruled him out, making Sreesanth the eighth Indian player to make his World Cup debut.
However, the ecstasy in the Sreesanth household surrounding his inclusion comes with serious question marks over Indian selection committee's astuteness in selecting an injured Praveen in the first place.
It seems as if the BCCI took its chance over Praveen, may be because of pressure from the Indian skipper as the UP lad has evidently been MS Dhoni's first choice in ODIs.
Even before the selectors announced Praveen's replacement, there were reports that the Indian think-tank, which includes coach Gary Kirsten and captain Dhoni, preferred R Vinay Kumar over Sreesanth.
It clearly sends out signals that Dhoni & Co. have had enough of managing Sreesanth's on-field arrogance and rank it as a distraction in an important tournament like the World Cup. But now that Sreesanth is in the team, will his captain select him to play is anybody's guess.
