Australia confident over Ponting's fitness

Melbourne: Cricket Australia is confident that Ponting will play in Melbourne Test despite the Tasmanian fracturing a finger while attempting to claim a catch during Australia's win in Perth at the weekend.
Cricket Australia's CEO James Sutherland on Wednesday said, "he would be surprised if Ponting isn't fit." Ponting has not been in the best of form in the current series with the bat as he is just averaging over 16 in the three Test matches and there have been calls for him to step down as the skipper.
Though Australia have called up rookie Usman Khwaja as the cover for the Australian skipper, it is quite likely that even a half-fit Ponting will take part in the Boxing-Day Test.
