Aus-SL: Perera's five limit Aus to 239/8
Melbourne: Thissara Perera came up with a superb spell of five for 46 to restrict Australia to 239/8 in the first ODI at Melbourne on Wednesday. For the hosts, Michael Hussey scored a fighting 71 and remained unbeaten.
Earlier, Australia's stand-in captain Michael Clarke won the toss and elected to bat on Wednesday in the series-opening limited-over international against Sri Lanka at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Regular skipper Ricky Ponting is missing the match to attend a family funeral.
Clarke led the Australian lineup which was comprehensively beaten by Sri Lanka in a Twenty20 international at Perth on the weekend. Leg-spinning allrounder Steve Smith, who played an important innings in the T20 match, was selected in the Australian squad at the expense of regular spinner Nathan Hauritz.
Australia will play Sri Lanka in three ODIs before taking on England starting next month in the five-Test Ashes series.
